Duties: ECD, NEWS DESIGN Job Description: As the Executive Creative Director of News Design, you will be in charge of setting our visual journalism vision, developing modern and high performing team structures, and setting direction on key activities that will drive engagement with and delight our consumers by creating unique and world class storytelling experiences. The ideal candidate is both a strategic and critical thinker with the ability to build team based systems and execute at scale. S/he possesses the ability to drive/lead fast paced and modern visual storytelling approaches that are seamless and intuitive based on an understanding of our customer expectations and our editorial methods/ambitions.. Critical to the role is the commitment to challenge the status quo, and build approaches that consistently set us on a path to realize world-class story telling experiences. Comfort with digital transformation and a relentless focus on a high standard will be required. Responsibilities: Lead CNN's news design functions, collaborating with partners across the company to understand the needs of our teams and establishing a structure and end-to-end workflows designed to best serve those needs. Empower and mentor designers on your team, fostering a cohesive, committed, passionate, productive, and positive environment within a growing team. Maintain and further build design team workflows that ensure that all designs delivered are in line with our collective vision and meet a high quality bar. Lead your teams to optimize output and ensure that the large volume of deliverables requested of the design team on a daily basis are completed on time. Lead your team in expanding mastery of our business goals and proactively drive solutions and results Be highly communicative and responsive both within your team and across the company while managing a large volume of ongoing projects. Lead the holistic view of our story-telling capabilities across integration (customer and editorial) points to provide a superior seamless experience from daily improvements to longer-term strategies. Create end-to-end customer journeys that inform new visual journalism features and capability and provoke new ways for consumers to experience our world class journalism and story insights.. Synthesize editorial expertise and consumer trends, propose hypothesis, test via A/B testing tools, document and recommend clear and specific solutions to meet consumer needs.. Qualifications: Requirements: You must be extremely pragmatic and have an exceptional ability to empower and manage teams of designers and partner with high energy and passionate journalists. 10+ years of experience as a news designer with proven experience leading design efforts on multiple interconnected efforts. 7 years of managing high performing teams; ability to attract, retain and develop top talent Proven experience building and maintaining world class news design systems and streamline workflows with continuous improvement Extensive mastery and a strong view on key professional tools to get the job done, with a strong understanding of when design teams should be using each tool. Ability to create and work towards an overall news design vision that meets and enhances business goals across the company. Ability to consider long-term sustainability in all news design decisions and maintain an eye for reusability in designs. You must be a world-class individual contributor to thrive at CNN Digital.
