Activities Assistant (Assisted Living & Dementia Unit)

At the present time we are looking for a creative, hands on Recreation Activities Assistant to assist in presenting and coordinating recreational programs for our Assisted Living and Alzheimer's Resident's.Assist Residents in their adjustments to a new concept of lifestyle as well as in the continuation of interests, hobbies and activities they may have previously pursuedAssist planning trips to various suitable destinations, i.e.., art galleries, theater, music, racetracks, sports events, religious and cultural programsHelp prepare, print and distribute copies of monthly calendar, newsletters and memos to ResidentsAssists in developing new and stimulating activities and encourage and coordinate Resident involvementPerform planned activities in the absence of the Recreation DirectorMaintain knowledge of Residents’ backgrounds, hobbies, special interests, and languages spoken, etc., and uses this knowledge to encourage Resident involvement
Experience: One year prior experience working a geriatric population. (Alzheimer’s/Dementia population experience a plus)At least 6 months of Recreation (art therapy, music therapy) or event leadership experience preferably in an Assisted Living/Long Term Care or similar industry setting
Qualifications:Outgoing, warm and caring personalityAbility to create a program to get Residents involved and excitedDependable and able to supervise activities, special events and excursions for the ResidentsCreative talents in one or more areas such as art, music, readings, dance, etcWell groomed and properly attired, professional attitudeDemonstrates good listening and communication skillsProven ability to lead classes/instructional learning sessions and speak in front of a group setting with ease and clarityHigh school diploma or equivalent at a minimumFull Time schedule covering the day shift. Must be willing to work one weekend day per week.
