POSITION SUMMARY:
The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible to provide quality clinical care activities for pediatric patients (birth to 21) within the scope of practice as defined by the state of Florida and the American Speech Language and Hearing Association. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team at the hospital and/or outpatient care centers. Demonstrate competency in evaluation and treatment, utilizing value-based care and evidenced based practices. Receives clinical review by the Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Coordinators.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  1. Performs assessments and treatments of patients with communication and/or feeding/swallowing disorders in order to assist patients in obtaining their maximum level of function
  2. Practices family-centered care by working in partnership with caregivers and patients to encourage and empower their active participation in the care plan
  3. Completes accurate and timely documentation of services in accordance with professional and compliance standards to best reflect the patient's status and needs, support revenue cycle and facilitate communication for continuity of care
  4. Demonstrates responsible actions and initiative to positively impact patient access to care and contribute to the department's financial performance
  5. Provides education and mentoring for students, interns, residents, observers, volunteers and/or staff to support their development
  6. Develops and/or implements clinical activities which improve or expand SLP services, within the department and/or hospital system, to benefit patient care
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited school of Speech Language Pathology
  • Certification as a SLP by the American Speech-Language & Hearing Association (ASHA) within 12 months of employment
  • Licensed to practice Speech Therapy in the state of Florida
  • Excellent command of the English Language
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • __X__ Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of Fifty (50) pounds without assistance
  • __X__ Category 1: Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
  • Visual acuity and fine motor dexterity to use evaluation and computer equipment
